“Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock.” Matthew 7: 24-25 NASB

We all are building something. There are the structural buildings of our lives, like our house or a screened-in porch that brings us pleasure in this life. We also seek fame, fortune, power and prestige.

We go into debt for things that won’t satisfy and realize all is counterfeit for joy except a relationship with Jesus. This parable is speaking of what we are building our lives on. The strong foundation of Jesus Christ.

Storms will come. They are inevitable. There are temporary storms and then comes the final storm of which this parable is really about. When the temporal storms come: sickness, relational problems, financial woes, or the death of a loved one, we face these storms with Christ and with the promises of His precious word.

Satan loves to try to kick over our “houses” but he forgets that our strong foundation is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ.

This parable of Paul speaks of the final judgement that the Christian will endure. When Christ returns to judge the nations, then the foundation upon which we have built our lives will be exposed.

“Then I saw the thrones, and they sat on them and judgment was given to them…and those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand; and they came to  life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years…..Blessed and holy is the one who has part in the first  resurrection; over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years.’” Revelation 20: 4a, 6 NASB

Whatever you are facing today, please know that God is on your side now and in eternity! God will shelter us in this life and the life to come. Read His word concerning you in Romans 8:37-39:

“But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, not life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created things, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” NASB

What are you building your life on? With Jesus, we have an unshakeable foundation for this life and the life to come.

Precious Heavenly Father, thank You for the promise that if we are Yours, that if we are committed to living a life that is building its foundation on You, that You will never leave us. Never forsake us. We can rest in the promise that we are safe and secure in Your hands. Father forgive us for trying to build our lives in You while we hold on to the things of this world. God we ask that You would give us the strength, in Christ, to rebuild those things sin has tainted. Lord we trust in You. We trust in Your plan. We ask that You will help us to stand unshaken as we await Your return! For it's in Jesus name we pray, Amen.
