Return home and tell how much God has done for you. Luke 8:39 NIV
We spend most of our days in the ordinary. We awake, eat breakfast, dress for the day, and head to work or drive our kids to school, or to visit an elderly parent. Later we return home, share a meal with our family, relax and ready ourselves for slumber. {Rinse and repeat}.
Life is full of the mundane, the ordinary, unless it's intersected by something extraordinary--a surprise or a crisis. We've become numb to the extraordinary Divine presence in our ordinary--little miracles that when compounded equal an extraordinary life!
What do I mean?
Try going about you day without one of your five senses: sight, hearing, smelling, touching, tasting. How much ordinary would then become extraordinary? Or what if suddenly breathing became laborious? A simple deep breath then becomes a miraculous, life-giving experience.
We all know the ordinary, mundane, every-day, life-giving actions are taken for granted because we simply don't think about them. We spend way too much time seeking the thrill of some spectacular event that we forget the small life-giving actions that give joy and life.
Without the miraculous rhythms of our senses, life would be less amazing.
We don't seek entertainment that tells about someone's first conscious breath. We don't consider stories of what someone sees from their picture window sensational. But consider the miraculous in the ordinary by imagining life without those senses.
I cannot imagine waking without seeing my husband's face, feeling the warmth of his touch, or the sound of my grandchildren's laughter. Life would be less sweet if my tongue ceased to distinguish savory from sweet or salty from sour.
Oh, the ordinary-miraculous is set within us before birth to set the stage for the extraordinary everyday experiences. We recognize our mother's and father's voices in utero. We hear her heartbeat and feel the warmth of her life-giving womb.
Breathe in life today! Touch the ordinary miraculous in every experience. Experience all God has made through your senses and know how very much a miracle it is to see, smell, touch, hear and taste the ordinary world around you.
Taste and see that the Lord is good (Psalm 34:8). Look at all He has done for you, even in the ordinary miraculous. Return from your day, and as you share a meal with your family, tell them all that God has done for you, (Luke 8:39) even in the ordinary miraculous day.
Father God, We thank You for the ordinary miraculous You place before us every day. Open our eyes to see these simple, yet extraordinary miraculous gifts You give us. Help us to praise You with a grateful heart amidst our every day. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
