Colossians 2:6
“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him,…”
Colossians 3:2-4
“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.”
1 Thessalonians 5:10
“He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him.”
Live your lives in/with Him
An entire family of “relationship” words can be found in the words live and life. Scripture is clear all the way back to Genesis that “life” is given by God, and is thus for God. But why give US life? Why were we given this precious and very limited, singular gift? Read the above verses and see if Scripture answers that question!
In our current day, a phrase I cringe to hear come from the mouth of a young single person but it is such a part of our culture… “I think we’re going to live together.” Yet to be sure, the MEANING of the phrase “live together” is clear – there will be relationship, be it physical, domestic, financial, social or emotional intimacy. THIS IS CERTAINLY THE SAME NUANCE OF MEANING BEHIND LIVING IN CHRIST AND BEING IN RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM. Jesus died for us so that whether we’re alive or dead, we were CREATED for permanent RELATIONSHIP with Him! He wants to MOVE IN! We have to yield. We’ve been used to living alone with ourselves; NOT ANYMORE! We have a ”domestic partner” and it works better if He’s in charge! The reason marriage and living together are to be synonymous and not exclusive in God’s economy is that the two COMBINED are designed as an earthly picture of Christ and the Church. Living together without a ring (seal, promise), certificate of marriage, ceremony, vows, and an official, is to miss the point of the God ordained REASON for relationship to begin with – that it POINT BACK TO HIM! Living together in the human sense misses this point and SCREAMS temporary – which is NOT what a relationship with Christ IS.
What do each of these phrases mean to you in your current understanding of what you have in Christ?
Live in Him:
Live with Him:
Live through Him:
Christ, who is your life…:
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
"Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.
