Engraved On The Palm Of The Almighty1
"See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands..." Isaiah 49:16 (NIV)
Tattoos are too permanent for my taste. I look back over my life and realize if I had printed everything that was ever meaningful to me on my body, it would look like a jumbled mess.
Am I the only one who stuck posters up on my preteen walls to stare at the latest heart throb Hollywood was marketing at that moment? What about the first boyfriend? First car? First school mascot? Best friend?
Whatever moved us one moment often lost it's luster a month, year or decade later. So the thought of having something very permanent on my skin never appealed to me because most things in this life are temporary.
Except... when you read Isaiah 49:16 or John 10:28 and discover God is absolutely crazy about us! He has ENGRAVED us on the palm of His hands! No one can EVER pluck us from HIs hand. This is a FOREVER love, an eternal commitment.
Can I be honest? I'm not sure I can wrap my brain around that concept. Things on earth pass away, like yesterday's fad, a favorite memory or our beloved family. So to grasp that God's love will not fade is a bit overwhelming.
Yet as I see the brilliant colors in the sky each morning and then the muted shades spray across the horizon at dusk, He reminds me that He is constant, never changing. His love endures FOREVER.
Grateful to be not just tattooed but engraved on the palm of the Almighty.
