When You Can't See What God Is Doing

Café Menu for Thursday, October 24, 2013
Today’s Special is: Trusting God in Uncertain Times
Carefully prepared just for you by a friend of our Encouragement Café team
Main Ingredient:

So Noah did everything as the LORD commanded him.  Noah was 600 years old when the flood covered the earth.  He went on board the boat to escape the flood—he and his wife and his sons and their wives.

Genesis 7:5-7 NLT

Entrée:

Have you ever followed God’s leading then found life filled with uncertainties?  God called you to missions, to a new career, or to a new relationship and what once seemed so clear now feels scary and challenging.

You’ve come too far to go back but you can’t see the future.  You’re stuck, forced to live in the ‘now’ with no idea how things are going to work out.  You don’t know what God is doing with your finances, your career, or your marriage.

In those moments when life is big and scary, you can find comfort in Noah’s story.

When God told Noah a flood of epic proportions was coming, Noah listened.  When God told Noah to build a boat, Noah obeyed.  When God told Noah to take his family and enter the boat, Noah did.

Each time God spoke, Noah listened and obeyed.  He had no idea what life was going to look like after the flood.  He didn’t know that he would be on that boat for a year.  He didn’t know how he was going to start over at six hundred years old.

Yet for all he didn’t know, you won’t find Noah questioning God anywhere in Scripture.  Never once does he say, “Wow, God, I’m not entirely sure about this plan of Yours”.

Instead, he responded to God’s plan with quietness and faith.

How was Noah able to respond with faith?  He stayed focused on what God wanted Him to do.  And as for the rest, Noah left that to God.

Dear sister, if you’re in the place where you’re questioning God’s plan for this season in your life, take courage from Noah’s story of simple faith.  Just like God cared and provided for Noah and his family, God will take care of you.

Take Out:

When you’re tempted to worry about the future, put on your favorite worship band and sing along. Worry and worship can’t co-exist.

Dessert:

Dear Father, Some days I can’t see what you’re doing in my life and it scares me.  I don’t know what life is going to look like after I get through this.  But I do know that I can trust You with all of life’s uncertainties.  It’s hard right now but I choose faith.  I release the future into Your capable hands.  I love You, Papa.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
