Today’s Special is: Helping Your Children Have a Strong Foundation
Carefully prepared just for you by your friend, Jamy Whitaker
Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.
Proverbs 22:6 NLT
I remember holding my children in my arms and hearing Proverbs 22:6, “direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it” and thinking I had all the time in the world to teach and train them. Well things changed this past fall when our oldest started her junior year of high school at a residential school over two hours away from home.
This adjustment brought a whole new light to this Scripture. I no longer have her at home every day to make certain she is doing what she is supposed to do. I can no longer pour into her daily.
However, the sixteen years leading up to this fall laid a strong foundation. Taylor is on her own but standing strong on her faith and beliefs. Even though she is away from constant guidance and surrounded by students with different backgrounds and beliefs, she is not being swayed. Taylor is choosing to shine God’s light to those around her and stand on her faith and what God says is true.
Let me encourage all of you, who are tired and weary and wondering if you are making a difference with your young children, to stay strong and pour into your children. Those words and your example will give them the strong foundation they need when they grow and start standing on their own.
I have enjoyed reading both of these books and would like to recommend them:
- The Mom I Used to Be – T. Suzanne Eller
- No More Perfect Moms – Jill Savage
Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for the children you have blessed me with. I pray that You would help me as I direct and teach them to follow after You. May I not grow weary. Give me the wisdom, strength and guidance I need. I know that what they learn as children will be carried with them throughout their lives. Help me to not take my responsibility as a parent lightly. I long to help my children draw close to You through my teaching and example. In Your Precious Name, Amen.
