Today’s Special is: Grace Empowered Parenting
Carefully prepared just for you by your friend, Connie Hughey
My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.
2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV
Here I am on the other side of raising my children. By the other side, I mean that I am not the mother of young children anymore. I am the mother of two young adults, a son and a daughter, in their late twenties.
When I look back on their childhood one question comes to mind. How did I do it?
There is only one answer. It was by the grace of God.
In the beginning, I was an insecure, immature, new-to-parenting mother. God upheld me as I struggled to learn how to care for my children. As they grew, I grew. My parenting skills were strengthened as I gained experience as a mom.
From the start, my number one prayer for my children was that they would give their lives to Jesus as their Savior and Lord. God answered this one prayer, along with the thousands of others I prayed for them. Both of them know Jesus and are living lives that glorify Him. And this happened because of the grace of God.
It was a joy for me to teach my children about Jesus and God’s Word when they were young. Even the mistakes I made were learning opportunities for them. My relationship with God was a model for them, of what it was like for an imperfect person to place their trust in the living God and find forgiveness and healing.
As believers, we serve a God who loves us and walks with us through all life has to offer, the good and the bad, the joys and the hardships. As parents, we bring our children along with us as we live out our faith before them in our daily lives.
God honors our decision to partner with Him as we raise our children to know Him and love Him. We can trust Him to help us because His grace is sufficient!
What is your number one prayer request for your child? If you don’t have one please consider coming up with one. You will be amazed when you see God answer it!
Thank You, Lord, for the strength You freely give to us in the challenges of raising our children. It is so good to know that You are there to help us even when we are at our weakest. Amen.
