Today’s Special is: Just When I Thought My Prayer Was Impossible
Carefully prepared just for you by your friend, Susan Call
Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Psalm 37:4 NIV
All the excess had been trimmed from my budget eliminating anything we didn’t truly need. Cable became a luxury of the past – anything in hopes of making ends meet. Still despite my valiant efforts, the numbers weren’t working. A struggling new single mom, I longed to spend more time with my two young children yet provide for them as well. A second job would only take me away even more while increasing my childcare costs. I prayed,
Lord, I don’t know how, but I need more time with my children and I need more money to get by. Please help!
It didn’t make sense, more time and more money. I couldn’t comprehend how God could respond to such a prayer. But thankfully, He isn’t limited by what we think is possible because He is the God of the impossible. I was soon about to be reminded of that first hand.
Within a few days, I bumped into a coworker whom I hadn’t seen in some time. His colleague was looking for someone with my very experience. Just a few short weeks later, that sidewalk encounter led to a new job – one that would enable me to telecommute and work earlier hours, giving me more time with my children with less reliance upon childcare. Long before telecommuting became common, God answered an impossible prayer of my heart and blessed my whole family!
Over the next week, take time to reflect on what makes your heart ache or what makes your heart rejoice. Pray open-ended prayers, allowing God to find ways to answer your prayers rather than praying prayers that limit Him based on what you think is possible.
Dear Father, please help us to align our hearts with Yours. As we seek You with our needs, may we be reminded not to limit You by what we think is possible, but trust in Your divine wisdom alone.
