Today’s Special is: Finding the Perfect in Your Imperfection
Carefully prepared just for you by your friend, Alyssa Woollard
This God-his way is perfect; the word of the LORD proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.
Psalm 18:30 ESV
For years the desire to have a perfect home enslaved me. Decorating and home renovation magazines fed my desire. And no matter how close I would come still I could find something to improve. I spent years and countless dollars pursuing the wrong sort of perfect and this is just one of the many ways I have struggled with perfection.
Several months ago I began scheming again. My newly remodeled bathroom was almost...well, you know. But I wanted one more thing-a black and white tile floor. I got the supplies and just as we prepared to start this project God convicted me.
You spend more time obsessing over your house than you do caring for the orphan.
Ouch. All I could think about was the little girl we sponsor. How I had not thought or prayed for her in weeks. I returned the flooring and purchased some gifts for our sweet girl in Haiti. Thank you Jesus.
We find freedom when we start pursuing The Only Perfect and accept we will never be him. We find freedom when we focus on his perfect peace and let go of the things of this world. We find freedom when we remember what perfect religion really is.
When I am tempted to be perfect I will remember The Only Perfect loves me just the way I am.
Thank You Holy Father, for being the only Perfect and for embracing me in all my imperfection. Teach me to be perfect as You are perfect as I take refuge in You. Thank You for giving us Your word to show us what it means to be perfectly loved. In Jesus Name, Amen.
