Today’s Special is: Focusing on the needs of others
Carefully prepared just for you by your friend, Savannah Parvu
… we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: It is more blessed to give than to receive.
Acts 20:35 NIV
We live in a “me” first world. Everything seems to be about pleasure. We do what we want, what feels good or what we think is going to make us happy. When we have a problem we often expect others to stop what they are doing and cater to our situation no matter how small it may be. We become so consumed with ourselves that we are unable see the needs of those around us. There are people all around us that are hurting and in need. These people need to be shown the Love of Christ. Our Scripture says that we are to help the weak.
There are times in my own life that I find myself caught in my own pity party and I just can’t seem to find my way of it. I am learning the fastest and most efficient way for me to get out of these pity parties is to take my focus off of myself and put it on helping someone else. Whether it’s serving at our local soup kitchen or crisis center, writing a note of encouragement to a friend, calling a friend to tell them that I am thinking about them or stopping to pray for others, it always makes me feel better when the focus is off me and on someone else.
Think about one person in your life that has been struggling or that may be feeling very weak. Make a point to focus your attention on them and show them that you care.
Dear Lord, thank You for Your love and forgiveness. Thank You for showing us what true love is. Help us to focus less on ourselves and more on others. Help us to put our wants aside and concern ourselves with the needs around us. Let Your love shine through us. Amen
