Today’s Special is: Who Are You Trying to Please?
Carefully prepared just for you by your friend, Jennifer Donaldson
Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.
Galatians 1:10 NIV
As a woman, it's almost unnatural if we don't get caught up in the size race. We are chasing after a goal that in a sense doesn't exist. Our goal should be wanting others to see God and not us. I know I have struggled in this department. So, I taped this Scripture up on my mirror as a reminder that I am out to please God and no one else.
There's a difference in taking care of your body and obsessing over it. Taking care of it requires the essentials: feeding, bathing, clothing, resting, and exercise (no I don't mean heavy lifting or even jumping jacks). I mean taking a walk and looking around at all of God's creation.
Obsessing goes to a whole other level. It sets a goal that keeps moving. Once you reach a certain size, weight, inches, then that line moves to ripped abs, becoming the leader of that exercise group, or having the ability to go to the beach and show it off. The motivation is much different.
Being obsessed, you eat, sleep, and breathe it. Your thoughts are always on it. It becomes what drives you. God wants to be your motivator. He wants you to eat, sleep, and breathe Him.
Who are you trying to please? What motivates you?
What is your motivation with your body? Check yourself out in the mirror and see what God sees.
Lord, help me to go about my day and see You and not me. Guide my eyes and guard my heart from all the worldly, vanishing goals about my body. Remind me that I am part of a bigger body, a body of Christ, so that I keep things in perspective. Thank You Lord for loving me just the way I am today!
