My life has been anything but easy and quiet, including many mistakes, failures, and horrible choices, abuse, divorce, abandonment, and mistreatment, but I have learned that none of these things define me. As a result of my experiences, I now speak very candidly about my life in hopes that it will be an encouragement to hurting people.

My prayer is that through being transparent in sharing flaws and mistakes that others may find strength and courage to reach out to their Creator, Jesus Christ – to know that they are not alone and that they do matter to God. He has not forgotten you and He does have a purpose for your life.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the LORD, and will bring you back from captivity. Jeremiah 29:11-14

Shattered Perspectives: Seeing God Beyond Broken Dreams, Fears, and Failures

It’s wild what we run from sometimes, isn’t it? It’s also just as wild what we don’t run from?

AJ spent many hours struggling to tell her story, all the time wondering whether her words would encourage or inspire. Would her story matter? What if people rejected her story; or worse, what if they rejected her? And, if people rejected the story, would that somehow invalidate the journey she has traveled so far in life to reach the place where she is finally accepted?

Her life was full of mistakes, failures, abuse, rejection, divorce, abandonment, brokenness, and horrible choices. Would she be willing to lay it all out for the world to see? Her heart had been shattered into hundreds of razor-sharp edges, just like a broken mirror discarded in a field, with one essential difference — her heart was not just an inanimate object on the ground.

AJ’s talents also include author, blogger, and freelance illustrator.
