Carefully prepared just for you by your friend, Debbie Holt

Blessing:

Scripture Reference:

I John 5

Today’s Message:

So far in I John, we have seen that:

  • God is light (chapter 1)
  • We walk in the light as we have fellowship with one another (chapter 1)
  • We know Him if we keep His commandments (chapter 2)
  • The one who loves his brother abides in the light (chapter 2)
  • This is His promise to us: eternal life (chapter 2)
  • Everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him (chapter 2)
  • No one who is born of God practices sin (chapter 3)
  • He laid down His life for us and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren (chapter 3)
  • Every spirit that confesses that Jesus has come in the flesh if from God (chapter 4)
  • Everyone who loves is born of God and knows God (chapter 4)
  • Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him and he in God (chapter 4)

There have been several contrasts in I John:

  • Light/Darkness
  • Love/Hate
  • Love the Father/Love the world
  • Confidence/Fear
  • Truth/Lies (Error)
  • Saying/Doing
  • Believer/Unbeliever -or- Children of God/Children of the Devil
  • Practice righteousness/Practice Sin

You have also listed several key words and their definitions:

  • Fellowship
  • Sin
  • Abide
  • Know
  • Love
  • Hate(s)

Closing Prayer:

Thank you, Lord, for Your Word. It gives me clear distinctions of what it looks like to be a believer and what it looks like to be an unbeliever. You want me to KNOW where I stand with You because You love me. And I love you, Lord. Amen.

As I complete today’s study, my attention is drawn to a verse that gives me hope and strength in the Lord. It empowers me! It helps me realize that the power within me is greater than that which is in the world.

1 John 5:18
“We know that no one who is born of God sins; but He who was born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him.”

Satan may tempt us, but he cannot touch us – true believer’s that is! How great is that? God has us in the palm of His hands and there is nothing on heaven or earth or hell that Satan can use to reach us. We are surrounded in His very capable, very protective hands. Praise the Lord! Live out the power that He has placed within us.
